What kind of outfits should I be searching for if I want to buy online?
Please see the options for men and women below with images to match. If this is your first time wearing Indian Clothes, I would avoid a saree as they can be difficult to drape without help of someone experienced.
Women - Lengha
A lengha, or lengha choli, or chaniya choli
Is a long skirt that comes with a fitted blouse and long scarf or shawl that is usually draped over the shoulder called a dupatta. This is probably one of the best types of outfit to buy as it can be easily put on!
Women - Salwar Kameez
A Salwar Kameez is ordinally a 3-piece clothing set which includes a Kameez which is the top, a salwar which is a pant/bottom, and a scarf style dupatta which is to be draped around the body. This is also a great easy option to wear, which may be suited more towards the pre-wedding events.
Women - Anarkali Suit
An Anarkali suit is a type of Salwar Kameez.
The dress is made up of a long, flowing frock-style top that stretches out from the waist down. It is often worn with a churidar bottom (trousers/pants) and a dupatta (scarf). Another great option as it is easy to slip on and you can get casual ones as well as glamorous heavily embroidered Anarkali's.
Men - Kurta
A kurta is a loose, collarless shirt that is usually knee length. It is often worn with matching trousers. This a great light option for guests to wear on any of the occasions.
Men - Nehru Jacket or Waistcoat
A Nehru jacket is a short or medium-length tailored coat with a mandarin collar and buttons up the front - very similar to a waistcoat. A very popular option for male wedding guests in the summer. This can be worn over a regular white shirt and white trousers, or corresponding colours to the jacket.
Men - Sherwani
Indian Sherwanis are the epitome of grace and style for grooms and men attending special occasions. It is a long coat-like garment that is buttoned up to the collar and usually extends below the knee. Sherwanis are often worn over a kurta (a long tunic) and churidar (tapered trousers), creating a layered and elegant look.
